I want to take you to a place this morning. I want to sit down with you sharing a pot of coffee or tea and show you what God is teaching me. This devotional is springing from something deep in my soul. I’m learning that God’s deliverance is not a long term plan! GLORY! Salvation is not on hold! It is for right now and for you!
I think it is so easy to let the small trivial things in our lives, become kind of like the idols in our lives. Anything we put above God is an idol. If we go all day or even worse all week and not commune with God, there is something taking His place. I don’t want to walk into church and not go back to “church” until next Sunday or Wednesday. This is everyday, all the time, worship. Why would we not trust Him with our time? Like Stephany Gretzingers song sings, He has been a Father for a long time now.
Let’s start reading in Isaiah 46. Bel & Nebo were two false gods that the idol-worshipping nations served. What is so crazy is, they were being carried on mules and weighing the poor animals down. I can just see these people in my head. “um yes, that is my god that the donkey is carrying.” hmmm.
Burdens can’t bear burdens.
That is important to realize. Whatever the god is in your life, it can’t help you. Only Jesus can help you, only Jesus can love you and walk through the ugly in life with you. Picking up an “idol” whatever that may be in our lives, does nothing for us!
We are carrying dead weight around when we refuse to let God really be God in our lives. He wants to take the tough things and make them something He can use. He wants to walk with us, holding on to us, but it takes two hands to hold hands. If you’re not holding onto God’s hand, He can’t hold yours because something else is in your hand. What are you holding on to?
“I’ve been carrying you on my back
from the day you were born,
And I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old.
I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray.
I’ve done it and will keep on doing it,
carrying you on my back, saving you.”
God has seen the end from the beginning. He knew what trials you would face. He says, I am in this for the long haul. I’m not giving up on you even though you may have turned me away before.
His assuring love is full of grace that can’t be measured.
I encourage you to study the full chapter of Isaiah 46. I read it over many times and found something new every time. Look up different versions of the chapter, mark in your Bible what God is showing you. This has the power to change your life.
